Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling completed a resilient Manchester City comeback against an Arsenal team who eradicated a hard earned first half lead.
The loss to Pep Guardiola’s men means that Arsene Wenger’s men remain nine points behind leaders Chelsea going into the Christmas break.
And being truthful, that gap should really have been only three points at the end of play today.
Tuesday’s game with Everton presented Arsenal with an excellent opportunity to take three points and enter today’s match with confidence.
Instead, sloppiness on the ball and a general lack of concentration allowed Ashley Williams to win the game for the Toffees, and it is clear Arsenal have not learned their lesson following today’s loss.
Despite the Citizens missing key men like Sergio Agüero and Fernandinho, they were more than able to capitalise on Arsenal’s inability to be ruthless and consistent throughout a ninety minute period.
One player in particular who has been blamed has been fan favourite Mesut Ozil, who looked like a shadow of his former self in a simply pathetic performance that angered many of the Arsenal faithful.
To begin with, his statistics from the 2-1 defeat would make any adoring fan of the German look away in shame.

And his work-rate on the pitch was shameful for one of the world’s finest players.

As expected, fans across social media ripped into the 28-year-old, and we cannot say we blame them.
Wenger wanted to sub Ozil, but he couldn’t find him on the pitch.

Id be more dissapointed if Ozil did sign a contract.

Lots of stick for City’s Gundogan tribute, but Arsenal have let some guy in an ‘OZIL 11’ shirt run around on the pitch!

We’ve heard this somewhere before about Ozil..
Not Rooney’s biggest fan but at least he puts a shift in & works hard defensively even when not in form. Ozil is a passenger at the moment.

Make Ozil watch his last two performances then ask him how much he wants again. Shocking performance and attitude from him.

I have never been so ashamed of the players who represent the club, the positive police can piss off right now, Ozil where were you again

Klopp would have Ozil killedpic.twitter.com/dJJbAJlx6V

City players missing – Aguero, Fernandinho and Gundogan
Arsenal players missing – Ozil.

Ozil is the most technically gifted coward I’ve seen play football.
— Austin (@AustinDarbo) 18 December 2016
Like Ozil, I also like to wander around Manchester now and then just killing time

Ozil deciding to act like he’s not playing today, to show Wenger what will happen if he doesn’t get his pay rise and leaves

On a positive note, this should make the Ozil/Sanchez contract negotiations easier. #MCFCvAFC

Well there’s always that, Piers..
