With the hype across Europe surrounding Euro 2016, it can sometimes be easy to forget that the Copa América Centenario is also taking place this month.
The fact that the games are taking place in the early hours of the morning in Europe means that much of the action can be missed, though occurrences such as Brazil’s shock group stage exit still make headlines for days afterwards.
Last night saw the competition round off the quarter final stage, with tournament favourites Argentina in action against Venezuela in Massachusetts.
it took Gerardo Martino’s side just seven minutes to open the scoring, but it was the manner in which the goal was scored that makes it worthy of such attention.
A fantastic ball from out wide by Lionel Messi was finished in acrobatic fashion by in-demand Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín.
The social media reaction should give some indication as to how that goal was received:
Higuaín’s goal, and a pass so delicious it carries a government health warning https://t.co/5omMCMdrfs

Argentina went on to win the game 4-1 and book their place in the semi final, where they will face tournament hosts USA in Houston on Tuesday.
In last night’s other quarter final, Chile utterly demolished Mexico 7-0. Four goals from Eduardo Vargas helped the current holders on their way to a last four showdown with Colombia, continuing the South American dominance of this competition.
