Watch: Man United Reject Memphis Depay Scores Yet Another Screamer For Lyon

Memphis Depay gave Manchester United another glimpse of what could have been on Thursday night with another brilliant strike for Lyon.

The Dutch international ha created a nice habit for himself of scoring special or important goals since leaving Old Trafford in January 2017, and his effort in the Ligue 1 side’s Europa League first knockout round first leg clash against Villarreal.

With Lyon leading 2-1 and heading into the final ten minutes, a nervy second leg in Spain was set to be the final outcome, until a loose ball rolled towards Depay and the Dutch forward unleashed a low drive from fully 30 yards out – powering into the net and giving Villarreal keeper Sergio Asenjo little no no chance of keeping it out.

However, some habits never cease – and Memphis being Memphis (i.e. delightfully inconsistent), the following clip begins with him wasting a threatening opportunity with an ill-advised rabona attempt just seconds earlier…

The goal was Memphis’ 11th of the season in all competitions (already his best goalscoring campaign since 2015) with Bruno Genesio’s side pushing hard for a top three place and a return to the Champions League.
