Manchester United Have Reportedly Opened Transfer Talks With Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United

Manchester United dominated the summer transfer market news with the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba and it now looks like they are at it again for the January window, this time with Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann.

According to the Mirror, talks have begun between the two clubs over the future of the 25-year-old, with a fee in the region of some £60 million being suggested to make the transfer happen.

Speculation over the France international’s future has been rife since the summer, with Arsenal and Chelsea both being linked with the attacking midfielder.

It now appears that United have the inside track and are looking to secure a deal in the January transfer window. The Manchester club will certainly have an advantage over their Premier League rivals as a move to Old Trafford would not see the Frenchman cup-tied.

Missing out on Champions League qualification this term cast a gloom over United fans, however now, this might be just the silver lining needed to seal a deal between the player and club.

The addition of Griezmann to the United midfield would ensure that manager Jose Mourinho would have one of the most formidable, and expensive, squads in the Premier League. Linking up with compatriot Pogba, Griezmann could very well be the key to unlock many a Premier League team’s defence, as he has proven time and again for Atletico and France.

What his arrival might mean for Wayne Rooney’s future is sure to become another talking point as transfer discussions with the La Liga side continue. It would be expected that Griezmann would likely challenge Rooney for his place in the squad and based on their respective form in recent months, could very well send the United captain to the bench, permanently.

While talks are in their early stages at this time, as transfer stories go, there many be none bigger this January.
