Martinez And Reine-Adelaide Among Starters For Arsenal Against Southampton

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has brought changes as promised for tonight’s game as Arsenal take on Southampton in the EFL Cup.

The Gunners won their last game in the Premier League against Bournemouth with Alexis Sanchez putting in a stunning display as the Chilean was at the forefront of the 3-1 victory, but Wenger has wisely decided to rest his star.

Other regular first-teamers such as Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil have also been left out of the starting eleven in favour of Arsenal’s fringe stars.

Emiliano Martinez will start in goal, whilst Carl Jenkinson, Rob Holding, Gabriel Paulista and Kieran Gibbs make up the defence, with Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi will figure as the three behind the forward, Lucas Perez.

Bizarrely, Granit Xhaka has not been handed an opportunity to start, with Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin being paired together in front of the defence.

Southampton will not be starting young star Josh Sims despite his impressive performance in the 1-0 win over Everton, with academy product Sam McQueen being handed a start against the Gunners.
