ESPN confirmed on Sunday evening that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will this week sign a new contract at Manchester United having been released at the end of June.
The Swede arrived at Old Trafford last summer on a one-year deal having run out his contract at Paris Saint-Germain. He bagged 28 goals for the Reds before suffering a season-ending injury in their Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht back in April.
It’s been widely reported in recent weeks that the 35-year-old would return to United when he completed his rehabilitation and that is now as good as confirmed.
Despite the vitally important goals he provided last season, fans are not exactly over the moon about the prospect of Ibra returning.
Quite honestly, we don't need him… I understand why Jose would want him but, makes really no sense where the team is going wanting Zlatan

Idm If zlatan signs an extension, as long as he's on the bench and don't start.. because Uniteds attack is nice and fluid the way it is

What role is Ibra going to have? Attack looks like it's developing well, don't need Zlatan coming in and missing 80% of our chances again.

i don't want Zlatan. starts every game which means dropping someone

The concerns are understandable considering how impressive Mourinho’s side has looked in the opening weeks of the season. The free-flowing, lightning-quick attack that has claimed back-to-back 4-0 wins for United surely shouldn’t be interfered with for the sake of giving Zlatan a victory lap.
He missed more big chances than any other striker in the league last season and was lucky to retain his sacred place in the starting eleven as long as he did. The Reds’ best performance of 2016/17 was the first time he was omitted when Chelsea came to Old Trafford in April. The energy and dynamism of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard was a far cry to the languid style of Ibrahimovic.
Reintroducing him when he’s back to full fitness would surely prove to be a mistake.
