There’s Been Another Twist In The Victor Lindelöf/Manchester United Story

The January transfer window is yet to even open and Manchester United have somehow managed to be part of a tumultuous transfer saga.

A few short days ago, Victor Lindelöf was seemingly certain to join Manchester United with even his shirt number picked out in anticipation of his arrival.

However, reports yesterday from the BBC claimed the deal was suddenly off with the recent good form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo convincing Jose Mourinho to pull out of the big-money swoop.

Today, stories in Portugal contradict Wednesday’s message, suggesting the deal is still very much alive. A Bola, a sports outlet based in Lisbon, are reporting that the BBC’s announcement was a final attempt to drive the price down on United’s part.

It adds that the two clubs have already agreed a €45 million fee.

While it is a reasonable enough contention, the BBC’s track record on transfer rumours means they have to be trusted.

Despite the nerve-wracking duo of Jones and Rojo leading it, the Reds’ backline has looked tremendously solid in recent weeks with the exploits of David De Gea rarely being called upon. With Eric Baily Africa-bound, the partnership will have to hold up a while longer.
