Over the last number of seasons Manchester United’s answer to the post-Alex Ferguson era slump has been to throw money at the problem.
Now, despite Jose Mourinho appearing to slowly turn the fortunes of the club around, the Old Trafford top brass seem keen to continue their eye-watering spending.
According to The Times, with Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay’s expected exits bringing in some more transfer funds, Mourinho will target a mouthwatering trio in the summer.
This includes long time target Antoine Griezmann, Monaco midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s days numbered as a top class striker, Griezmann would sooth the ex-Sweden international’s inevitable departure, while Bakayoko could be a straight swap for Schneiderlin in the heart of midfield. Finally, Lindelof would add more steel to a defence Mourinho has already helped improve this season.
Currently ten points off leaders Chelsea, this season will likely not herald any title challenge at this point, but with United in fine form, having just put one foot in the EFL Cup final with a 2-0 win over Hull City, the aforementioned touted signings could be the difference in taking United from top four contenders to title challengers next term.
