Mats Hummels who has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona claims he would only be willing to move away from Borussia Dortmund if he liked the style of play of the club that he would be moving to.
The London Evening Standard reports that Hummels is not interested in a big-money move and that he is happy at Dortmund but if he was to go, there are certain footballing conditions that would have to be met.
“If a club with a bigger reputation than Dortmund were to make a move, but I don’t like the way they play football, I wouldn’t even consider a move,” he is quoted as saying by Kicker in the London Evening Standard.
“At Dortmund, the style of play is exactly like I want to play football.”
Hummels’ side haven’t had the best start to this season’s Bundesliga campaign with a total of just seven points in seven games. Now that Manchester United’s forward players are looking as though they’re beginning to click, the time may be right for Hummels to join the Old Trafford side.
Without disrespecting Dortmund; Manchester United have a bigger reputation than the German giants, as do Barca and Real Madrid so a move to any of these clubs would firmly tick the reputation box and from a footballing point of view each of these teams are exciting to watch going forward.
Defensively Hummels would be a superb addition, particularly to United where signings will need to be made either in January or the summer to solidify their defence.
If Louis van Gaal can pull off a masterstroke in the next couple of windows and manage to land Hummels as well as a rumoured move for Barcelona left back Jordi Alba United would have an extremely gifted array of players to choose from, from front to back.
