Manchester United Striker Seals Move Away

With the impending arrival of Radamel Falcao it seemed ineivatable that a striker would leave Old Trafford and Javier Hernandez has joined Real Madrid on a season long loan deal with an option to buy.

The following statement appeared on Real Madrid’s website and the Mexican international will provide competition for Karim Benzema as Madrid’s central striker.

“Real Madrid and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Javier Hernandez Chicharito, who will be attached to the club for the current season. Real Madrid retains an option to purchase the player”

The Mexico international started in Louis Van Gaal’s opening Premier League game against Swansea, however the 26-year-old was replaced at half time and has failed to secure first team football with United in the last few seasons.

The Mexican international joined Mnachester United in the summer of 2010 signing Mexican side from Guadalajara for £6.9m.

Hernandez enjoyed an impressive debut season in England scoring 20 goals in all competitions as United won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.

The 26-year-old failed to replicate this form in the following seasons appearing more as an impact sub for United. The signing of Robin Van Persie saw the Mexican striker feature less regularly.

Hernandez departs Old Trafford with a record of 59 goals in 154 appearances, albeit only starting six Premier League games last season.

Mexico manager Miguel Herrera posted his best wishes to the 26-year-old on Twitter earlier.

“Getting to Real Madrid is a great opportunity for @ CH14_ [Hernandez] , whom I wish the best of success!”

Hernandez has scored  an impressive 36 goals in 66 caps for Mexico and follows in the footsteps of legendary Mexican striker Hugo Sanchez who scored 207 goals in 283 between the years of 1985 and 1992 for Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old is expected to be understudy to Karim Benzema but with Real Madrid short of striking options following the departure of young Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, Hernandez could be set to play a number of games as Madrid battle to defend their Champions League title.

Madrid suffered a disappointing 4-2 loss at the weekend to Real Sociedad which see’s Carlo Ancelotti’s side already playing catch up against Bareclona and defending La Liga champions Athletico Madrid.

The arrival of Hernandez will give Madrid more depth in attack and there could be more departures at Old Trafford with Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck linked with moves away.
