Manchester United’s Attacking Stats This Year Make One Thing Very Clear

Manchester United

Manchester United’s form has dropped off a cliff since their early-season brilliance with the Reds dropping points at home to Stoke and Burnley and recently obliterated by Chelsea.

Despite some superb attacking talent on show, goals have been few and far between. The stats from their opening ten games give one very clear message.

Finishing simply hasn’t been up to scratch with Jose Mourinho’s side creating more chances than any of the above sides, they’ve played more key passes and have the highest pass completion but have the fewest goals.

To underline the point, they boast the worst shooting accuracy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic must take the blame for much of this with the Swede having taken over one-third of his team’s efforts on goal.

While Paul Pogba is in a similar boat, the vast majority of his attempts have come from outside the box so a decrease in accuracy is to be somewhat expected.

To put Zlatan’s inaccuracy into context, he has taken more shots than Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney combined for the same number of goals.

However, it’s hard to envisage¬†Jose Mourinho dropping a man with whom he shares such a “special relationship”.

The numbers also make clear just¬†how potent Juan Mata is for a player that isn’t renowned for his goalscoring prowess.
