Manchester United Rumours: Powerhouse Midfielder On Radar

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to sign compatriot Kevin Strootman from Roma, meanwhile the reports linking  Nemanja Vidic with a move back to Old Trafford are now being dismissed as fiction.

Manchester United fans will have to brace themselves again for a repeat  the ceaseless transfer rumours that ruined their summers’ in the run up to this January’s window. Speculation is centred on the possible signing of Kevin Strootman from Roma, who looks like being the new Arturo Vidal in that the press are constantly talking about his possible move.

The tough tackling midfielder, has been sidelined since he sustained a knee injury in a Serie A game against Napoli last March. He is being eased back into the Roma first team, he watched from the bench as his side crashed out of the Champions League following  their home defeat at the hands of Manchester City. This result would appear to make the Dutchman’s move to Old Trafford more likely in the January window as otherwise he would surely opt to remain with the Italian outfit for an assault on the knock out stages of the competition.

Roma for their part are insisting that the 24-year-old is going nowhere, team general manager Mauro Baldissoni was quoted in the Manchester Evening News as saying.

“This is something I’m reading every day. It is also something our president doesn’t like to read every day. He made a statement at few weeks ago saying Kevin was not for sale, but, to be fair, we haven’t received any call from Manchester. We do not plan to sell him.”

However the speculation is that the Serie A outfit will be prepared to revisit their position should Louis van Gaal come up with a mega money offer, £40 million would probably needed for the Italians to sit up and take notice. The United boss would ideally like to bag his target in the January window but would be prepared to wait until summer to close the deal.

The Star reported yesterday that a deal to bring defender Nemanja Vidic back from Inter Milan to Manchester United  was virtually in the bag.  However today the self same news outlet carried a story in which the players agent Silvano Martina categorically ruled out such a U-turn by the Serbian international only a few months since he left Old Trafford.

“It’s all just stories. Vidic has a three-year deal with Inter and he’s not moving from Milan. I’ll say this again – he’s not moving from Inter.”

Interestingly enough the Star made no mention of yesterdays article where it confidently predicted Vidic’s return.
