Regardless of what Manchester United do tomorrow, they will still be hoping for Manchester City to slip up to give them an opportunity to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next year.

However, they are eager to not find themselves in such a position again next season, and the Red Devils are keen on bolstering their squad.

With the seemingly impending appointment of José Mourinho as manager, fans are anticipating that the club will splash the cash in the summer.

According to The Daily Star, they have put Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane at the top of their list.

The 23 year-old France international is widely regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in the world at present, and has a massive two months coming up, bidding to win the La Liga title and Champions League with Madrid, before making a tilt at Euro 2016 with the hosts.

Varane is close to Mourinho according to reports, and the deal could be in the region of £30 million.

Manchester United will be seething after missing out on Renato Sanches during the week, while Mat Hummels’ move to Bayern Munich means that Varane is one of the few world class options available at centre-half in the transfer market.
