Manchester United Ready To Meet Release Clause Of One Of La Liga’s Best – Report

Arsenal

Manchester United are at it again. Ever present in the summer transfer rumour mill, United have been linked with some of the biggest names in Europe. With a seemingly bottomless pit of money to dip into, it appears that nobody is out of reach.

Now, following the heroics of Atletico Madrid in their Champions League semi-final victory over Bayern Munich, United have apparently increased their interest in Atletico forward Antoine Grezmann.

Griezmann has been in imperious form this season for the La Liga title contenders and following another assured performance against Bayern on Tueaday, in which he scored the vital goal that sealed Atletico’s advancement to their second final in three years, the Frenchman has confirmed his status as one of Europes finest strikers.

With 56 goals over the past two seasons Griezmann has become a key target for Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal. Eager to bolster his attacking options and take the pressure off Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, Griezmann’s attacking prowess, which includes nearly 60 goals over the last two seasons, would be a huge addition to the Old Trafford squad.

According to Spanish media outlet El Confidencial, United are now ready to meet the £63 million release clause set in the Frenchman’s current contract. At 25, Griezmann is now entering his prime as a striker and United will be eager to sign the Frenchman now in order to avail of his best years.

While the Old Trafford club can afford both the transfer fee and any wage expectations of the Frenchman, the fact that United are looking less and less likely to be competing in the Champions League next season might well deter Griezmann from the chance to play for the storied Manchester club.

As Atletico prepare to once again face their city rivals Real Madrid in this year’s Champions League final, one cannot blame Griezmann for preferring to staying put in Spain where In addition to Champions League football, his current side, Atletico, are competing for domestic  league silverware, another thing United are currently unable to offer.

While it remains to be seen if an official offer is made for the Frenchman, it may well be that Manchester United are no longer the draw for top players that they once were.
