While the opening fixtures of the season suggested José Mourinho had already turned a corner with Manchester United, the past week – with defeats against Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford – have left fans wondering if they are gone back to square one.

The Daily Mirror, however, is reporting that Mourinho is busy planning for the January transfer window in the hope of boosting his squad in order to meet the demands of the Old Trafford faithful.

The newspaper suggests the former Chelsea boss wants to return to another of his old sides and raid Real Madrid for Spanish midfielder Isco.

The £25 million-rated attacking midfielder seems surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu at the moment with his only start of the season so far coming in the Super Cup against Sevilla. Isco was also linked with a move to Tottenham towards the end of the summer transfer window, according to Sport Witness.

The early form of United so far this season suggests the club lacks creativity as Mourinho tries to accommodate his new record signing Paul Pogba as well as trying to find a place for Wayne Rooney, a player he has long admired yet many feel no longer deserves his place in the starting eleven.

Isco’s ability to link play from midfield to attack is a quality currently needed at Old Trafford, with Rooney no longer the threat he once was in possession.
