Jose Mourinho wants to make some alterations to his defence.
Despite spending £30 million on Eric Bailly, it seems Manchester United are not happy by the manner in which their defence has been exposed during the opening weeks of the season.
Daley Blind in particular has been at the receiving end of a great deal of criticism following his performance against Manchester City. This appears to have fueled United’s interest in Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.
Although the Uruguayan has been linked with a number of moves away from the Vicente Calderon, according to The Mirror, United have stepped up their pursuit of the central defender after one of their leading scouts was spotted attending at Atletico’s midweek Champions League fixture with PSV Eindhoven.
Since moving to Madrid from Uruguayan side Danubio in 2013, Gimenez has earned a reputation as a tough tackling no nonsense defender.
Such traits are valued by Mourinho, and are attributes that are not wholly associated with Blind or Chris Smalling.
