Manchester United are set to offer their super-keeper David De Gea an exceptionally lucrative deal before Christmas. A new five-year contract is set to be penned in the next few months and will be worth £30 million.
The offer breaks down as a sensational £120,000 a week in wages and this increased contract would double De Gea’s current wages, according to the Mirror.
Following speculation surrounding a possible move from Real Madrid for the United star, it now appears that the Old Trafford hierarchy are wary of the Spanish goalkeeper’s head being turned by the lure of the Bernabéu.
Madrid also must realise that it will be difficult to tempt one of United’s most prized assets away from Old Trafford and there are rumours circulating today that Madrid are planning on landing Chelsea’s Petr Cech while Sami Khedira may go the other way.
For United fans this news comes as a welcome boost. With all the new additions in attack at the club it can become easy to neglect attention towards one of Europe’s now big-name goalkeepers. He was epitome of consistency in United’s defence all through last season, earning him Manchester United’s player of the year award; becoming the first goalkeeper to do so.
He has carried that consistent form through to this season and he will be a crucial part of United’s fight to get back to where they belong at Europe’s top table. This investment may look costly but it wouldn’t be as costly as leaving the Spaniard return to Madrid when it is clear to see, at 23 he still has plenty of work left to do in Manchester.
