Manchester United youngster Nick Powell looks to be set for a loan move to Leicester City before the deadline at 11pm tonight, according to the Mirror.
After impressing at Crewe Alexandra, Powell joined the Old Trafford club with a lot of promise back 2012 but it now looks as though he will have to prove himself elsewhere once again to have any chance of regaining favourable position in Louis Van Gaal’s plans.
His chances have been extremely limited the last number of years at United, only making six appearances in 2012/13. Last term he was on loan at Wigan but hasn’t done enough to earn himself a solid starting place at United this season either.
At 20 he has still has plenty of time to progress and a step back again this season could signal a step forward soon for such a young prospect. A meteoric rise from Crewe all the way to United at such a young age may have been a lot to ask of Powell who still needs time to develop and adapt to one of the world’s most strenuous leagues.
In Leicester, he would be joining up with a team who haven’t had as tough a start to the Premier League as people may imagine after drawing with Everton, losing 2-0 to Chelsea but then reacting extremely well to pull off a draw against Champions League bound, Arsenal.
Powell’s future can still look as bright as it did back when he joined United if he shows enough promise with the Premier League new boys this season and if he can help them improve on what has already been a solid start to their campaign.
