Compared to the circus surrounding the arrivals of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic last year, it’s been a relatively quiet summer at Manchester United thus far.
Victor Lindelof was brought in from Benfica on June 10 for a fee of about €35 million while rumours of a number of other potential signings have rumbled on.
This afternoon, however, it appears the club has made significant strides towards their second acquisition of the window with a report from The Guardian claiming Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic will complete a medical at Carrington in the next 48 hours and will be a United player before the week is out.
Matic is a two-time Premier League winner but fans on Twitter remain somewhat apprehensive about the latest arrival.
Matic? Not sure. Didn't have the best of seasons and the Chelsea faithful don't seem distraught about him leaving @LouMacari1

40m for Matic is fucking embarrassing. If we get him and Morata that's two signings I don't want ??♂️⚽️

Please tell me it's Matic AND Fabinho and not instead of ??

For god's sake no matic I don't want that lazy camel in here.

Man, please not Matic. There are so many other better, younger options for Man Utd to sign.

Not only is Matic shit, but he's also the slowest professional footballer alive. Keep him away from my club, please. Don't leave me suicidal

There is some supporters though that are excited by the reported signing.
I'd be happy enough with Matic. Was a key part of Mourinho's last title winners.
Fondly remember the days we all wanted him from Benfica.

Matic rumors stronger than ever. Don't know about the rest but I am happy. He was superb when Chelsea won the league two seasons ago. #MUFC

Matić has won the Premier League twice in his last three seasons, starting most games. I'll be happy as long as Fabinho also comes.

Matic’s imminent arrival surely means Monaco’s Fabinho, as was rumoured, will not arrive. With Marouane Fellaini seemingly not leaving anytime soon, Michael Carrick staying on another year and Ander Herrera still firmly in the manager’s plan, it’s difficult to imagine a second defensive midfielder arriving.
Should the Serbian sign on the dotted line in the coming days, he’ll be part of the squad that will travel to America in a fortnight for the first part of the Reds’ preseason tour.
