After one of the game’s most successful careers, littered with trophies and personal accolades, United legend Ryan Giggs may finally become a fully-fledged manager.
With Ronald Koeman leaving Southampton, there is a vacant hotseat on the south coast. Sky Sports are reporting that Giggs is in the running to take over the Saints but faces stiff competition.
Frank de Boer is the favourite to replace his compatriot, while David Moyes, Eddie Howe and Manuel Pellegrini also strong candidates.
Giggs took charge of four United games as interim boss after Moyes left the club in 2014. He has served as an assistant to both Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
Many United fans see him as a long-term replacement for his mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson. However, supporters would likely prefer he gain some much needed experience while Jose Mourinho is in charge.
Koeman left Southampton on Tuesday to move to Everton who had been looking for a new coach since sacking Roberto Martinez.
