Real Madrid could lose one of their top defenders because Los Blancos won’t meet his wage demands, now meaning Manchester United could swoop for Sergio Ramos.
The Daily Star claim that the Spain international wants a deal worth £10 million-a-year, which Madrid aren’t willing to pay out.
With United said to be interested in signing a high-quality defender, Ramos offers great value at £20 million although the Old Trafford outfit have also been linked with Everton’s John Stones.
This is what Ramos’ brother and agent had to say on the current situation:
“For now he still has two years of contract. We await the call of the club but Real Madrid have not called me,” Rene said.
“For now there are no talks. Perhaps it is best if he doesn’t finish his career at Real Madrid but at another club. We never know.
“Football is changing so fast – you must enjoy the moment.”
If United can somehow tempt Ramos to Old Trafford, he significantly increases their chances of having a rock-solid defence next season. Not only is he hugely experienced – having earned 127 caps for Spain – but he is also clearly one of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment.
United look to be on the rise once more and a signing of Ramos’ calibre would help no end in the north-west club’s journey back to the top of English football.
