Manchester United Keep Tabs On Barca Defender

Manchester United could be in line for a move to sign Barcelona left back Jordi Alba, according to reports.

United were interested in the 25-year-old during the summer but he is reportedly now being tracked by the blue half of Manchester also.

City are supposedly willing to splash the cash for Alba although it may be tough to take him away from the Catalan giants due to Barcelona wanting a ‘like-for-like’ replacement should the Spain international depart, according to the Daily Star.

Alba’s ability in his position is unquestionable and it is no doubt that if he were to leave Barca there would be a massive gulf in the team’s capability of attacking down the left flank. He has pace in abundance, and combined with his defensive robustness he is the all-round modern full back.

At the current moment with United boss Louis Van Gaal playing a central midfield three with little natural width one can see Alba being a superb asset on the counter attack if he were to join up with the Old Trafford outfit. Stability at the back is slowly but surely returning to United’s play and Alba could do no harm to this improved defending of late.

His speed on the wing would also help the Red Devils counter quickly and the possibility of the 25-year-old linking up with Angel Di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao would be a devastating blend of flair to contend with.

While Manchester City have started the season in a healthier manner than their nearest rivals and are in second place in the league it would certainly give Manuel Pellegrini a distinctly different option from Aleksander Kolarov who has played in five of City’s seven league games so far this term.

Although it is yet unclear if Barca would be willing to let one of their defenders go, particularly if they can’t find a suitable replacement, Alba would be a player either of these sides could ill afford to pass up such is his capability both defensively and offensively.
