Manchester United Fans Slam Decision To Extend Fellaini Contract Ahead Of Michael Carrick

Manchester United fans are coming to grips with the revelation that the oft maligned Marouane Fellaini has been awarded a contract extension by manager Jose Mourinho.

Given the Belgium international’s inconsistent former since his £27.5 million move from Everton in 2013, the decision to exercise the 29-year-old one-year extension option sent some United fans into fits of rage and disbelief online.

Seen as a reward for his hard work and acceptance of the team dynamic under Mourinho, Fellaini’s extension has now shown a new spotlight on another massive bone of contention that fans currently have with Mourinho, namely the continued failure to resolve the soon to expire contract of United stalwart and midfield general, Michael Carrick.

At 35, Carrick is well and truly in the final years of his professional career and while he has never been a headline grabber over the years, he has continued to secure the spine of a United side that has seen much change since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.

Now with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, fans have become increasingly vocal over the chance of losing him to a free transfer rather than see him end his playing days as a Red Devil.

Following the news that Carrick midfield partner had signed an extension until 2018, fans took to Twitter to cry fowl and demand United do likewise with the English man.

Despite reports that Mourinho has instructed the United board to offer Carrick an extension, as of yet all is silent in that area.

The club now has five months to make a call on the veteran midfielder. With luck fans will see their will be done.
