Manchester United Confirm Agreement With Everton Over Romelu Lukaku

Most had expected Manchester United to still be pursuing a deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata this weekend after weeks of intense speculation came to a head earlier in the week.

However, a flurry of reports emerged on Thursday morning claiming a fee had been agreed between the Old Trafford club and Everton for 24-year-old Romelu Lukaku. That has now officially confirmed by United on Twitter.

The Belgian will undergo a medical today in Los Angeles and finalise the deal. He and Paul Pogba will then join up with the rest of the squad tomorrow after they arrive from Manchester for their preseason tour.

The fee is reported to be in the region of £75 million with as much as £15 million in add-ons attached to the deal. If that is indeed the case, Everton fans will no doubt be happy with the club’s business. The Merseysiders have already invested heavily this summer but will presumably continue to do so after receiving the massive initial sum. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Olivier Giroud are thought to both be on the radar for Ronald Koeman and his staff.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney is expected to be heading the other direction later today when he joins his boyhood club on a free transfer.
