Manchester United are said to be close to agreeing a deal for Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero after it was revealed by Sky Italia (via Metro) that he is set to have a medical at the club.
This story has been revealed in the wake of news that Victor Valdes looks to be on his way out of the club. If this is the case, then Romero may potentially be his replacement and new number two to David de Gea.
Speaking of the Spanish stopper, this move could also be a positive indication that United are not looking to replace De Gea, as Romero was not first choice with Sampdoria last season.
Speculation still surrounds United’s number one, however signing what appears to be an understudy, at least for now, indicates the keeper is staying.
In what has already been a busy couple of weeks for manager Louis van Gaal with the signings of midfield stars such as Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, his dealings clearly aren’t anywhere near done.
Today it has also emerged that Barcelona’s Pedro could be leaving the Nou Camp for Old Trafford, seeing United swoop in under the noses of Chelsea, who looked at one stage to be the favourites for his signature.
