With the arrival of José Mourinho, there is a lot of hype around Manchester United’s transfer activity. The Red Devils are being linked with several stars of world football, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
While the Swedish striker would undoubtedly be a major coup, Mourinho will also appreciate the importance of investing in the future.
According to a report today in The Express, United have launched a whopping £79 million bid for PSG star Marco Verratti.
Verratti is a hard-working playmaker who has enjoyed huge success with PSG since moving there in 2012. The 23 year-old has also been capped 15 times for Italy, and he will be a key loss for the Azzurri as they head for Euro 2016, against Belgium, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
This may come across as a massive figure to fans, but Verratti has the potential to be one of the leading players in world football in years to come.
Manchester United need a strong presence in midfield, and with the spine of the team in Bastien Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick pushing on, Mourinho will be keen to strengthen that area of the park.
Verratti would be a massive addition to United, but while it is an attractive option, there is only one report and not much other talk up to this point.
