There are reports coming out of Spain today suggesting that Manchester United will sign highly rated Valencia midfielder André Gomes this summer. The 22 year-old midfielder is represented by Jorge Mendes, the agent of José Mourinho.
Mendes is reportedly convinced that the Red Devils will sign Gomes this summer.
Gomes is a Portugal international, and has also played for Benfica.
According to SuperDeporte in Spain, Gomes was quoted last week as saying that he will wait until after Euro 2016 to discuss his future.
“We are focused on Portugal and that is what we are interested in speaking about. It does not matter much at this point, it’s all a mystery.
“Leaving Valencia? Talk to the president of the club.”
The midfielder is able to pull the strings from the centre of the park, and he would be an attractive option for José Mourinho as he looks to build a new-look Manchester United team.
With the Portugal connection as well as the influence of Jorge Mendes, it is certainly not impossible that Mourinho will make a move for Mendes this summer, and if the reports are to believed, this may only be a matter of time.
Hat-tip to the Mirror.
