Manchester United could be close to signing both Fernando Llorente and Edinson Cavani following weeks of speculation around United signing a striker.
Louis van Gaal previously hinted that he may be signing a frontman before claiming that these reports were untrue.
However, now he could be in line to sign two strikers to back up main man, Wayne Rooney.
The Daily Express cite bookmakers William Hill’s slashing of the odds that Llorente will go to United as another reason this move could be close, which are now at 2/1. Cavani, meanwhile, is at 5/1.
Llorente, judging by the odds at least, appears to be the clear favourite to join the Old Trafford club. Cavani’s move may be less likely though, as his agent last week claimed that his client was happy at PSG.
With United needing backup firepower to Rooney, the signing of even one of these strikers would surely advance United to a different level.
There many more touted names out their than the aforementioned duo, however, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who are being reported as targets also.
With the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield as well as right-back Matteo Darmian so far in this window, United are in a strong position everywhere except for up-front.
Any one of these names would go to helping in increasing depth in forward areas.
