Another day, another big shift in the Jose Mourinho to Manchester United story…
Last night, a series of sensational tweets exploded out of Manchester as the highly regarded United forum Red Issue, made some sweeping statements about the twisted power struggle currently going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
According to the tweets, the reason why the media are so frequently releasing contrasting reports with regard to Jose Mourinho’s proposed move to Old Trafford (it’s on, it’s off, it’s on again, it’s off again, it’s a done deal… it was never on to begin with) is because different personalities at the club have alternative agendas in terms of who they would like to see appointed. As such, they are using the media to push their own candidates (Giggs vs Mourinho vs Pochettino) leading to very mixed messages coming from highly regarded publications.
The situation at United now seems shambolic to say the least. Having said that however, the Manchester Evening News, a good source for insider information at Old Trafford have now made what appears to be a somewhat concrete assertion as they have claimed that Mourinho has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Ed Woodward to take over at the end of the season.
“Jose Mourinho believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with Ed Woodward to become the next Manchester United manager.
Mourinho is yet to sign a pre-contract deal with United, however M.E.N. Sport understands Mourinho believes he will replace his friend Louis van Gaal as United manager.”
Unless Manchester United lose to Shrewsbury Town this evening, one would assume that there is still a long way to go before Mourinho is officially announced as the next manager at Old Trafford.
However, with the manager now being offered at odds of just 1/5 to replace Louis van Gaal, one would have to assume at this point that it is simply a matter of time.
