Done Deal: Manchester United Confirm The Signing Of Goalkeeper Lee Grant

Manchester United have made their third major signing of the summer in the form of goalkeeper Lee Grant.

The Premier League club confirmed the signing on Tuesday evening for an undisclosed fee, but it is believed that they have paid somewhere in the region of £1.5m for the 35-year-old’s services. on a two-year contract.

Speaking to Man United’s website upon completing the move, Grant said that he hopes to pass on his years of experience at his new club, as well as continuing the learning process:

“Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club. I’ve enjoyed every moment of my career so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best players in the game.

“But at the same time, I intend to use my experience to help the team whenever possible.”

Grant, Stoke City’s Player of the Season in 2017, has been signed very much as cover for first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea and understudy Sergio Romero. Joel Pereira, the current Man United third-choice, is expected to be loaned out this season to gain first-team experience, while Sam Johnstone has completed a £6.5m move to Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

The move also throws Kieran O’Hara’s Old Trafford future into doubt, as the Ireland under-21 international would no doubt have been hoping to move up the goalkeeping ranks at the club, particularly with Pereira’s expected temporary departure.
