Manchester United Set An Unwanted Record By Losing To Brighton

Manchester United fell to their seventh Premier League defeat of the season on Friday after a poor showing against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Jose Mourinho’s side are almost certain to finish second in the league table, but the manager was still frustrated with the disappointing display from his players at the Amex.

In losing to Brighton, Man United also set a new record – though it is unlikely to be one that they will boast about. According to Opta, this is the first time in since 1990 that Man United have lost three matches promoted sides in any one season – and the first in their history that they have lost away to all three.

Mourinho’s side lost 2-1 to Huddersfield in October and 1-0 to Newcastle in February – and with this latest loss, it means that the Red Devils have collected zero points from their travels against the sides that were plying their trade in the Championship last season.

Considering their record against the top six this year has been exemplary in comparison, Mourinho and Man United will no doubt point to these defeats, as well as the 1-0 reversal against bottom-side West Brom at Old Trafford last month, as where their title challenge ultimately fell flat.
