Man United Fans’ Deliriously Happy Reaction To Wayne Rooney Finally Being Dropped

José Mourinho has finally done the necessary and taken Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney out of the firing line.

The misfiring 30-year-0ld has been an automatic starter in all of Mourinho’s matches thus far (bar the Europa League defeat at Feyenoord) but despite playing in a variety of positions, his below-par performances have seen him draw criticism from the public and media, even if a multitude of former teammates and other footballers have performed mental and logical gymnastics to defend him.

Mourinho has repeatedly said that he would have no problem dropping Rooney if it needed to be done, and he has finally made good on his word by replacing him with Michael Carrick for this afternoon’s Premier League clash with defending champion Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Somewhat predictably, Man United fans on social media have reacted pretty well to this news:

The neutrals, meanwhile, just sat back and enjoyed the fireworks…

What this means for Rooney going forward is (obviously) unclear, but this does feel like a massive statement of intent from Mourinho.
