Manchester United safely secured their passage to the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night, though they made harder work of Rostov than they needed to.
José Mourinho’s side ground out a 2-1 aggregate win against the Russian outfit, and their reward for reaching the last eight is a tie against Belgian side Anderlecht.
Man United will be the favourites to progress to the semi-finals, and indeed the expectation is growing that they will be lifting the trophy in May and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Second-favourites Lyon, having conquered Roma in the last round, will look to book their place in the last four but have an awkward trip to Turkey to face Besiktas.
The other quarter-final fixtures see Celta Vigo take on the other remaining Belgian side Genk, Cork City’s conquerors way back in the qualifiers last summer, while two former champions square off as Ajax will play against Schalke.
Europa League Quarter-Final Draw
Anderlecht v Manchester United
Celta Vigo v Genk
Ajax v Schalke
Lyon v Besiktas
The first leg of the ties will take place on Thursday, April 13th, with the return leg taking place one week later.
