In one of the most dramatic Manchester derbies for quite some time, United came from 2-0 down to defeat City 3-2 to ensure put the title celebrations on ice.
Needing three points against their local rivals to seal the title, Pep Guardiola’s side looked on course to seal the title there and then with first-half goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan. Indeed, they had the chance to put the game out of sight but Raheem Sterling missed a couple of decent chances.
Those chances would come back to haunt them, as Man United were level just ten munites into the second half through two quick-fire goals from Paul Pogba. The turnaround was complete with twenty minutes remaining when Chris Smalling found himself unmarked in the box to prod past Ederson and put the visitors 3-2 up from 2-0 down.
City rallied from there on in, introducing Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero into the match in order to swing it back in their favour. Aguero was very unlucky not to be awarded a penalty under what looked like a foul from Ashley Young – and when Sterling saw a scuffed effort strike the post late on, they would have known that it was not to be their day.
Man City lose at the Etihad in the league for the first time since December 2016, and with Man United narrowing the gap at the top, the title race, if it could ever really be called that, will drag on just a little bit longer. United, meanwhile, have second place virtually wrapped up now one would think.
Social media could barely stop to gather its breath after a stunning turn of events at the Etihad:

FT: #MCFC 2 #MUFC 3. A second half in which City ran out of legs, ideas and composure and United, Pogba in particular, showed the balls and courage that had been so lacking in the first half. They performed like a Mourinho team in the 2nd half
