Manchester City are in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over a sensational move to the Etihad, according to the Daily Express.
The Gabon international was simply outstanding for Borussia Dortmund, thriving as the forward in a 4-2-3-1 with the German club.
Aubameyang scored 39 goals in all competitions as Die Borussen fell short of Bayern again in the race for the Bundesliga title, and has attracted several suitors, most noticeably the Citizens and Real Madrid.
With Zinedine Zidane at the helm in Madrid, the ship has been steadied somewhat following the dismissal of now Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, but the Frenchman is known to like his compatriot Karim Benzema, and it is unlikely that ‘Auba’ as he is is known would be able to dislodge the former Lyon forward from the team.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are the two remaining players of a three-pronged attack for Los Blancos, so a move to Spain may not appeal as much.
However, in Manchester, Pep Guardiola has arrived and reinvigorated the club before the season has even begun.
Ilkay Gündogan is a player that Aubameyang will know well from their time together in Dortmund, whilst the signing of Nolito gives an exciting prospect of having a player of real quality supply the forwards.
Sergio Agüero is the main forward at City so it remains to be seen how Aubameyang would fit into Guardiola’s system, but should he sign he would be one of the summer’s most exciting transfers.
