Manchester United fans were eager for the club to make a statement this transfer window, and were not kept waiting, as the club are set to attain the services of Romelu Lukaku with the Belgian striker joining from Everton.
The first season of José Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford was seen as one of progress, as the Red Devils picked up the League Cup and secured a Champions League berth for next season by winning the Europa League.
While there were times throughout last season that frustrations were growing, there is a sense that they are moving in the right direction with a young squad.
Lukaku, the latest acquisition, is certainly confident that he can bring them to the next level.
Speaking to ESPN about the move, the 24-year-old laid out his reasons for joining the club, and it is clear that he holds United in the highest regard.
“It is the biggest club in the world. It is a club hungry to win the league again.
“I’m delighted to be part of their history. Who would say no to the biggest club in the world?
“A good group of guys, and the best manager in the world. [José Mourinho is] a guy who I wanted to play for since I was 10 years old.”
United will be eager to push on this season with Lukaku as their frontman, and challenge for the Premier League title.
