With Real Madrid apparently finalising Iker Casillas’s move to Porto, most believe that David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid is all but wrapped up…
However, the saga continues to roll on and the latest news coming out of Spain suggests that there’s a bit of life left in this one yet.
According to Spanish show Jugones, Van Gaal has informed De Gea that he has absolutely no intention of stepping aside so that he can complete his move to Madrid. Speaking to De Gea this week upon his return to preseason training, the Iron Tulip reportedly made it clear in no uncertain terms, that he was not willing to facilitate the transfer.
According to Jugones, De Gea came to Van Gaal on the very first day back to reaffirm his desire to leave for Los Blancos and Van Gaal simply responded ‘No.’
Whether Jugones are to be believed or not remains to be seen, but for once, it seems that United are standing firm rather than standing idly by as another of their greatest products heads to Spain.
The risk for The Red Devils is that De Gea will leave on a free transfer next summer, but when one considers the Luis Suarez to Arsenal saga in the summer of 2013, perhaps standing firm is the Old Trafford giants best option.
In that case, Suarez did everything he could to force the move to the Gunners, even speaking out in the media on several occasions. Arsenal triggered the Uruguayan striker’s release clause and still the Anfield side would not budge.
Suarez stayed. By Christmas he had signed a new contract and the following summer he went to Barcelona for over £70m. Perhaps there is a lesson in that saga for how Manchester United should look to handle their want away keeper.
Meanwhile, a number of reliable reports over the past number of weeks have stated that Sergio Ramos is the man that Van Gaal wants from the Galacticos should they decide to allow De Gea’s departure. Reports have stated that the Spanish central defender is disillusioned and angry at the Bernabeu and that he is insulted by the offers being made to him by Florentino Perez.
However, as the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words and today, it seemed that all is rosey with Ramos and Perez as the players returned to the club after the summer break.
Was he ever really going to leave?
