Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Adam Lallana has suffered yet another injury setback this week.
The severity of Lallana’s latest injury is yet to be confirmed but Klopp did reveal that the England international will miss out on the FA Cup fourth-round tie against West Brom at Anfield on Saturday.
While Klopp did explain that the setback is not believed to be serious, there is also doubt over whether the midfielder will be fit to return for the upcoming league fixtures against Huddersfield and Tottenham.
Lallana had only just returned from a four-month stint on the sidelines due to a thigh injury on New Year’s Day when Liverpool beat Burnley 2-1, and went on to appear against Manchester City and Swansea in the league as a substitute, as well as starting the FA Cup third-round win over Merseyside neighbours Everton.
Liverpool fans will not be pleased to hear this latest development as Lallana has proven to be a potent addition to the side when fit.
Klopp gave the following update at his weekly press conference at Melwood: (via the Daily Mail)
“Adam Lallana unfortunately has a little issue which keeps him, I’m pretty sure, out of the next game. It’s not a big one, but when you have a long injury, it needs time to adapt again to the intensity of a Premier League game.
“We tried to be careful with that, but it didn’t work so well.
“It’s a little tear, muscle in the leg. It’s not a big one, but it’s enough.”
The German also revealed that James Milner is a doubt to face the Baggies having suffered a dead leg in training.
The Reds will be seeking to bounce back from their league loss away to 20th-placed Swansea last time out and regain some momentum with a win over Alan Pardew’s side on Saturday in the cup.
