Liverpool are planning an ambitious move to sign Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi from under the noses of Arsenal, say Valencia-based newspaper El Desmarque.
The Gunners have been stalling over a deal to sign the Germany international in recent days as the London outfit try to negotiate with Mustafi’s club regarding the transfer fee.
It’s evident that Mustafi is willing to join Arsenal having agreed to personal terms, but Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp do provide a strong alternative option should the move to Arsenal fail to materialise.
El Desmarque’s report claims that Liverpool are in ‘full negotiations’ which are believed to have started when Valencia enquired about the possibility of signing Luis Alberto on a permanent deal.
These talks are not at all a factor to the potential Mustafi deal however.
Nevertheless, the Reds appear to have taken a place in the driving seat in what would infuriate fans of the Gunners.
The alternative target for Arsenal is Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez, who has a €65 million buyout clause at the La Liga giants.
The Uruguayan is only 21 but has been a stellar part of Diego Simeone’s side, and his stock is as readily rising as the club he plays for.
