Jurgen Klopp may have had enough of Mamadou Sakho’s antics at Liverpool.

In April of this year, Sakho was on an all-time high. After contributing to the scoresheet in their legendary win against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League semi-final he was seen as pivotal to the Reds’ defence and a potential captain for years to come. But recent events might lead to his abrupt departure from Anfield.

There has been a lot of speculation as to why Sakho has been downgraded to the reserves but it seems that the relationship between Klopp and the Frenchman has been strained for a while now.

The rumours began when he allegedly tested positive for a prohibited substance in March, which caused him to miss the Europa League final against Sevilla. Even though the case was ultimately dismissed, Klopp was still very unhappy with the behaviour that led to his suspension.

The problems continued during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States when the 26-year-old turned up late for the flight, a meal and multiple training sessions, which led to Sakho being sent home early because of “a lack of respect” for the team’s rules.

The defender hasn’t played a single game since for the first team. The club had put it down to an injury but Sakho took to his Snapchat to clarify his situation:

The Frenchman’s situation is looking dire as Klopp played Lucas ahead of Sakho in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Tottenham, and the player himself has admitted, via The Mirror, that it is time to move on.

January is fast approaching and it appears that Klopp may be eager to offload some of the more inconsistent players in the squad, including Sakho.
