Liverpool have been frequent visitors to the Aviva Stadium in recent years as part of their pre-season fixtures. They faced Athletic Bilbao around the same time time in front of a full crowd, and have also come up against Celtic and Shamrock Rovers in the past few summers.
The match will takes place at the end of what will be a busy summer for Jurgen Klopp’s men, with fixtures against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Manchester City already confirmed in the United States as part of the annual International Champions Cup friendly tournament.
Tickets for the match will be released to the general public on Friday morning, and if the last few occasions are any indicator, it is likely to be a sell-out once again.
In the meantime, Liverpool will face Italian opposition this week and next when they face off against Roma in the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League.
Napoli, meanwhile, blew the Serie A title race wide open on Sunday night with a last-gasp winner at Juventus, narrowing the gap on the leaders to just one point as the season reaches its finale.
There have also been tentative reports that this may not be the only high-profile friendly at the Aviva this summer, with speculation that Premier League champions Manchester City could be set for a clash with soon-to-be-managerless Arsenal at the same venue.
