Liverpool have enjoyed a promising start to their Premier League campaign this season with Jurgen Klopp leading his side to away wins at Arsenal as well as Chelsea, and a bizarre loss at Burnley the only negative result for the Kop so far.
Away from the playing field, the Reds boss is busy searching for new recruits in order to restore the club to where many feel it should be – back in the top four and pushing for honours – ahead of the reopening of the transfer window in January.
The Sun reports that the Anfield side are currently scouting Sassuolo’s French striker, Gregoire Defrel, in order to draft in some competition for Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and forgotten man Danny Ings in the new year.
The 25-year-old has netted five goals in his last six games for the Serie A club and was scouted by Liverpool over the weekend when he scored in the 2-0 win over Genoa, according to speculation in Italy.
Despite the excellent results away to Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham and the home win over the Champions Leicester City at Anfield, all of the Reds’ goals so far have come from the defence or midfield with none of Klopp’s current stable of strikers finding the net in the Premier League.
Having shown Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke the Anfield door and with the future of Daniel Sturridge and his inability to stay fit raising concerns over his long-term future at the club, Klopp is in need of bringing in the right reinforcements in attached.
The German, of course, likes his teams to play a particular style of football which means he is in search of a striker that will suit the system he requires and can provide the goals needed to help achieve his plans for the club. Gregoire Defrel, therefore, with his pace and work ethic, could be seen as the answer to Klopp’s problems up front should he continue to impress.
