Liverpool Loanee Named In Ligue 1’s Worst Team Of The Season

It’s not only Liverpool strikers based on Merseyside who are coming in for criticism this year, it’s also those on loan, as Divock Origi’s recent inclusion in Ligue 1’s worst team of the season has proved.

It really is just adding salt to the wound for a club which has just lost their last league game of the season 1-6 away to Stoke City, have a player (Raheem Sterling) at the centre of a protracted contract dispute, and have just bid farewell to their long-term captain.

Just when it looked as though a long summer break could ease the strains and stresses of what has been a difficult end to the season, Liverpool have been hit with news that French newspaper L’Equipe have included the Lille striker in their worst XI of 2014/15.

Origi featured in a large percentage of Lille’s league games this year, making 33 appearances in total but has come in for scrutiny due to his performances. He started his spell at the French side brilliantly, scoring three goals in his first six appearances but then went on a disastrous run of form from the end of September up until the middle of March without a single goal.

After breaking this miserable run with a hat-trick at home to Rennes on March 15th, one may have thought his season could pick up again but just another two goals have followed in a disappointing loan season for the striker, who scored just nine goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 club.

Rumours are circulating today that the Reds are poised to bring in Christian Benteke so it may well be curtains for Origi’s chances at Liverpool, despite the Anfield outfit having forked out £10 million for him last year, before loaning him back to the Great Danes immediately.
