Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Phillipe Coutinho who has left the club to join Barcelona.

The Reds have come to an agreement with Leicester City over the transfer of Riyad Mahrez, according to a report from beIn Sport.

The deal is worth a whopping €55 million (£49 million) with Mahrez set to travel to Liverpool on Sunday to complete a medical and agree on personal terms for the deal to be finalised.

Mahrez has been in flying form for Leicester this season and was of course an integral part in their historic Premeir League winning season of 2015/16. The Algerian was awarded PFA Player Of The Year in that same season and was highly sought after by a host of top clubs around Europe as a result of his performances.

However, he decided to remain loyal to Leicester and signed a contract extension which was supposed to see him stay at the club until 2022.

He should slot straight into the Liverpool team in place of Coutinho, with both players having the same potent attacking and playmaking style, making this a shrewd business move on Jurgen Klopp and co’s behalf.

There is, of course, around £20 million of the £142 million acquired for the sale of Coutinho remaining once the signings of Virgil van Dijk and Mahrez are accounted for, meaning the Anfield faithful may even see their squad further bolstered before the end of the January transfer window.
