In an attempt to strengthen their squad long-term, Liverpool are keeping tabs on four youngsters from the distinguished Barcelona academy that could fit the mould at Anfield.
According to Spanish publication Sport, the Premier League side are interested in a quartet that includes defensive pair Marlon Santos and Nili Perdomo, striker Marc Cardona, and midfielder Wilfrid Kaptoum.
Liverpool’s chief Spanish and Portuguese scout Kiko Espinar is following their development, but the La Liga giants are not keen on letting the youngsters go.
Kaptoum has the most experience of the four having featured for the Barcelona first team on more than one occasion, showing promise by notching a goal against Valencia in the Copa del Rey semi-final last season and a Champions League debut against Bayer Leverkusen.
Marlon is currently on loan at Brazilian side Fluminense, while Perdomo is playing his football with Barcelona B following a spell with Las Palmas. Cardona also joined the Spanish side from Atletico Sanlequeno during the summer.
Similar to his time at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp is determined to improve Liverpool’s youth system and the acqusition of the talented quartet would certainly be a step in the right direction.
