Liverpool V Hull City: Confirmed Lineups, Lovren Out, Sturridge Benched

Having beaten Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea already this season, Liverpool now have to overcome another psychological hurdle against Hull City today.

Liverpool have tended to struggle with the favourites tag in recent years, a problem which Klopp himself made direct reference to when speaking to the meida earlier this week.

For today’s game, as was practically confirmed yesterday, Loris Karius makes his Premier League debut in place of Simon Mignolet in goal.

The 23-year-old started in Liverpool’s 3-0 EFL Cup win against Derby County in midweek, and now gets a chance to stake his claim as Klopp’s number one in the short-term.

Roberto Firmino, who missed last week’s 2-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, also keeps his place from midweek, with Daniel Sturridge the man to make way.

Dejan Lovren is absent with a viral infection, so Ragnar Klavan starts in his place.

Hull City, meanwhile, will be more of the spirit shown in the 2-1 EFL Cup win against Stoke in midweek, rather than the 4-1 thrashing at Arsenal last weekend.

Prior to today, interim manager Mike Phelan had use the same starting eleven in five consecutive games despite recruiting a number of players towards the end of the summer transfer window, but that has finally changed.

Goalkeeper David Marshall starts in place of Eldin Jakupovic, while record signing Ryan Mason comes in for David Meyler.
