Liverpool Target Gotze Set To Join Dortmund According To Reports In Germany

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC - AUGUST 29: Mario Gotze of FC Bayern Munchen during a training session prior to the UEFA Super Cup match between FC Bayern Munchen and Chelsea at Stadion Eden on August 29, 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Borussia Dortmund are currently hot favourites to sign highly-rated midfielder Mario Gotze following previous rumours the German Star was to link up with his old boss at Liverpool.

According to German tabloid Kicker (via The Express), Gotze is set to rejoin Dortmund after leaving the side for Bayern Munich in 2013, a transfer not short of controversy.

Gotze worked under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during his time at Dortmund and the Anfield boss is currently looking to add to his attack after signing Sadio Mane from Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the star, with the London club speaking with representatives of the player last weekend.

Gotze hit the headlines at the last World Cup in Brazil by scoring the winning goal in the final. However, because of injury and form, he had not held down a regular place at the Allianz Arena. The attacker has already entered the final year of his contact with Bayern, who – reportedly – are keen for him to move on.

Kicker, meanwhile, also reported that Dortmund are to sign André Schürrle from German side Wolfsburg, a deal that’s “highly probable”.

Schürrle’s move to Dortmund is looking more promising following Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s recent move to Manchester United, a void head coach Thomas Tuchel is looking to fill sooner rather than later.
