To give credit to Liverpool, they never do things the easy way.
Jurgen Klopp’s side did the necessary and qualified for the Champions League final, but somehow nearly threw away a four-goal aggregate lead in a crazy second half against Roma in the process.
The visitors went in 2-1 up at the break, with James Milner’s unfortunate own goal coming in between strikes from Sadio Mane and Gini Wijnaldum.
Edin Dzeko scored early in the second half to level it up, and that was the way it stayed until five minutes from time when Radja Nainggolan put Roma ahead on the night and gave the Italians a glimmer of hope of at least forcing extra time.
That glimmer grew brighter deep into stoppage time when Ragnar Klavan was adjudged to have handled in the box. Nainggolan scored his second of the match, Roma made it 6-7 on aggregate – but the headline is not the match itself, it’s that Liverpool are in the European Cup final for the eighth time.

Great achievement by Liverpool; club in crisis under Hicks & Gillett less than 8 years ago; FSG have learned a lot and rebuilt; appointed top manager, sign players smartly, steward the $ well, now in the Champions League final. #ROMLIV

FT: Roma 4 #LFC 2 (6-7 on aggregate): Great scenes in Rome. Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League in Kiev on May 26. Defeated on the night but fully deserved winners over the tie. Blew Roma away at Anfield and dug deep here.
