Liverpool Handed Boost As Joe Gomez And Sheyi Ojo Look Set To Return

Liverpool are going through somewhat of a turbulent period after an incendiary start to the season saw Jurgen Klopp’s Reds appear untouchable. Kick started by Coutinho’s injury just a few weeks ago, the depth of the squad has been tested.

As a result, we’ve seen Bournemouth defeat Klopp’s side in a 4-3 thriller last week. Liverpool came from behind to take just a point from West Ham in Anfield.

Loris Karius’ form has been called into question; the 23 year-old has been criticised by some pundits for a number of mistakes that have led to goals being conceded. There have also been concerns in defence with Joel Matip missing the Bournemouth fixture through injury with midfielder Lucas filling the void.

Step up Joe Gomez. The 19 year-old was a regular at the beginning of last season before a series of unfortunate injuries have seen the young centre-half ruled out for the best part of a year. However, the talented youngster has been a regular with the Liverpool under 23 side as he looks to be close to full fitness.

With Dejan Lovren likely to miss Wednesday’s fixture against Middlesborough, it’s reported the teenager could possibly be named amongst the substitutes. With the congested Christmas period approaching, it’s likely that Gomez will see game time for the first time under Klopp very soon.

In attack, exciting youngster Sheyi Ojo has now got two full games under his belt as he returns from injury, scoring for the Liverpool under 23’s against Arsenal on Monday night in the process. The 19 year old suffered a back injury in pre season but could be in line for a senior return in the coming weeks.

Sadio Mane’s inevitable departure to play in the African Cup of Nations early next year could also see the hot prospect break into Klopp’s side in the second half of the season. The future looks bright for the young talent who featured regularly in Liverpool’s FA Cup campaign last season.
