Liverpool’s acquisition of Mario Balotelli for £16 million could prove to be the bargain of the season, with a report stating that the Italian striker is actually worth £29 million.
The Liverpool faithful might be interested to learn that Mario Balotell is actually worth a lot more than the bargain price of £16 million, according to the BBC.
The ‘Beeb’ reference the CIES football observatory pricing model, which values a player based on a range of variables including age, international appearances, goals, etc. Applying this model values Balotelli as a £29 million player.
This will be music to the ears of many Liverpool fans and they will undoubtedly be happy with what looks like another fantastic piece of transfer business by Brendan Rodgers.
Balotelli received a rapturous welcome on his Liverpool debut and although he spurned a number of chances, the former Manchester City man looked very lively despite his lack of first team football.
Liverpool fans may also be amused to hear that the same formula prices Manchester United signing Angel di Maria at £36 million, significantly less than the massive £59.7 million Louis van Gaal splashed out.
Ouch. No pressure then Angel!
